Metrex Hand Hygiene Products Compliant with FDA Ruling Against Methanol in Hand Sanitizers
On Friday, June 19, 2020, the FDA released a warning advising consumers not to use hand sanitizers that contain methanol and identified nine toxic hand sanitizers (see attachment) since methanol, when in contact with the skin or ingested, can cause severe health effects.1,2,3 On July 2, 2020, the FDA extended the list of toxic hand sanitizers to 59 products and has recalled those products. These products contain methanol and should not be used (see attachment).4,5 Metrex products are NOT on this list.
At Metrex, Protecting People is our primary concern. With this mission in mind, our hand sanitizer portfolio and our anti-microbial soaps do NOT contain methanol and comply with the current FDA guidance.6 VioNexus™ No Rinse Spray is aligned with the CDC hand sanitizer recommendation, by containing 60+% ethanol, is produced following good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and is manufactured in the USA with carefully controlled ingredients from controlled sources only. In addition, our hand sanitizer formulation has been evaluated for irritation and sensitization studies on humans in third-party laboratories. Both tests concluded VioNexus™ No Rinse Spray to be non-irritating and non-sensitizing to the human skin.7,8
